The Hudson County Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has created a Diversion Pilot Program to help divert Hudson County residents away from the Criminal Justice System to the level of care they need to help mitigate their substance use challenges. The Hoboken, North Bergen, and Union City Police Departments have partnered with HHS on this initiative. The Diversion Pilot Program is funded by the Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant and Substance Abuse Program (COSSAP) grant through the U.S. Department of Justice. The program is a confidential, free and voluntary program for Hudson County residents, ages 18 years and older, who have current or prior substance use challenges. Once a client is enrolled, case managers will provide light case management services which include but are not limited to: linkages to social service entities to discuss benefit entitlement, connections to service providers who can help assist in finding the right level of care for the identified substance use and/or mental health challenge and linkages to peer recovery programs, support groups (A.A., N.A.), and other supports to achieve and maintain recovery. If you have any questions about the program or to make a referral directly please reach out to the Union City Police Department Detective Bureau at 201-348-5800 or the COSSAP Administrator Kayla Hanley at 201-369-5280, ext. 4254.
